Fighters that burst onto the MMA scene with the support and hype that surrounds Ruan “Fangzz” Potts are few and far between. Fans of Team Potts have set social media platforms alight with words of encouragement for the man they believe will win – and words of defiance for anyone who thinks otherwise.
Perhaps The Fangzz revolution is a result of the demolition of his first two EFC AFRICA opponents; perhaps it is his clean cut looks and image. Potts believes it has more to do with his blemish free record.
“I think it has to do with the fact that people like a winner, I am a good fighter and I have never lost (in 12 professional fights) and people respond to that.”
Fighting for the title is the reason the countless hours are spent in the gym, it’s the reason that mixed martial artists wake up and train, injury free or not. A shot at the title is everything and the moment has not been lost on Potts.
“I am ecstatic about being given the opportunity to fight for the title, it’s definitely the biggest fight of my career and I am not going to let the opportunity slip past me. I have trained, and am ready for a five round war!”
The self trained Potts believes, without a shadow of doubt, that he has what it takes to fasten the coveted heavyweight strap around his waist come the 30th June.
“I am a better all round fighter than Norman, I don’t think he (Wessels) has any weak points but he definitely has openings and I am going to be targeting them. I am coming into this fight fitter and better prepared than my previous fights and I am ready for anything.”
The Fangzz faithful can all rest easy in the fact that he does not intend on allowing Norman “Chef” Wessels the satisfaction of carving his first loss into the MMA history books.
“I am definitely going to win. I am determined to win this fight and everything I have ever set my mind to I have won. Thursday will be no different.”
