All EFC AFRICA 16 athletes medically cleared

Johannesburg (South Africa) – Johannesburg (South Africa) – 26 of Africa’s greatest athletes showcased their MMA skills at EFC AFRICA 16 on 19 October at Carnival City. Of the 13 bouts, 3 ended by submission due to chokes, 1 by submission due to strikes, 5 by technical knockout or knockout due to strikes, 3 by judges’ decision after all three rounds, and 1 by judges’ decision after all five rounds.

All EFC AFRICA events are overseen by Event Doctors’ fully qualified medical team. According to doctors Sarel Botha and Shen Naidoo, injuries sustained at EFC AFRICA 16 were:

Khalil Akleker: Right ring finger laceration.
Wilhelm Strauss: Left lower eyelid laceration.
Dain Neveling: Left eyebrow laceration and epistaxis.
JC Lamprecht: Bilateral eyelids laceration and epistaxis.
Markus Taljaard: Unilateral dilated pupils and concussion. Referred to hospital for CT scan and neuro-observations. Cleared by doctors and discharged from hospital that night.
Wade Henderson: Metatarsal fracture on the left foot. Referred to hospital for X-rays.
Terrence Griessel: Forehead laceration.
Bernardo Mikixi: Right eyebrow laceration and concussion. Referred to hospital for CT scan and neuro-observations. Cleared by doctors and discharged from hospital that night.
