Johannesburg (South Africa) – Lightweight legend and brutal strike artist Leon ‘Iron Lion’ Mynhardt is to take on the up-and-coming Johan ‘The Gun’ van Staden in what is certain to be a hard-hitting crowd pleaser at EFC AFRICA 19, April 19.
Mynhardt is fresh from his comprehensive loss to current lightweight champion Costa Ioannou, a loss that to a fighter of his calibre and pedigree will be a bitter pill to swallow, and a huge boost to blasting his way back to a winning footing.
Van Staden made his EFC AFRICA debut at EFC AFRICA 18 with an incredibly accomplished showing against EFC AFRICA legend and veteran Dallas Jakobi. Taking the fight on only four days’ notice and pushing the former welterweight champion to an unbelievable (and EFC AFRICA first ever) draw, van Staden showed himself to be a huge presence in the lightweight division.
A victory for the younger will be a massive statement to the rest of the lightweight ranks. A victory for the Iron Lion will be a fitting reassertion of his superb pedigree.
Will van Staden be able to withstand and control the certain onslaught? The night of April 19 will reveal all.
