Johannesburg (South Africa) – On Thursday 18 April, one day before the huge EFC AFRICA 19 event, EFC AFRICA will experience another first with the airing of EFC AFRICA 19: Journey to the Hexagon, on prime time e.tv.
Scheduled to air at 20:00 (CAT), the programme delves into the personal lives and backgrounds of four of Africa’s ultimate mixed martial artists – Demarte Pena, Wentzel Nel, Michiel Opperman and Martin van Staden – who are all competing in the upcoming EFC AFRICA 19 event. Viewers will witness first-hand, from the athletes and those closest to them, the tests and the triumphs which have made them who they are today and see the determination and resolve needed on their journey to the Hexagon.
“This is an amazing opportunity,” says Cairo Howarth, EFC AFRICA president. “Over three million people are going to be introduced to the real lives behind these incredibly hard working athletes, the reasons that drive them to compete as hard as they do. With so much of the audience to be made up of people that are not traditionally fans of our sport, it’ll be a huge boost for MMA all over the continent.”
The special was shot in HD over multiple days in Durban and Johannesburg, South Africa, in the homes, workplaces and gyms of the four main-event athletes competing in next Friday’s event. It is documentary style (following a similar format to the HBO Boxing and UFC countdown shows), delving into the lives and backgrounds of these fascinating characters.
EFC AFRICA 19, presented by MusclePharm, takes place at the Carnival City Big Top Arena on 19 April 2013. Tickets on sale at www.computicket.com and tickets for the live broadcast to Nu Metro Cinemas available now at www.numetro.com.
