van Staden Ready To Bang

Tension between Naumann and van Staden boils over

Johannesburg (South Africa) – In only three days Frederich ‘Ninja’ Naumann and Johan ‘The Gun’ van Staden face off in what has grown into one of the most anticipated matchups on the prelim card.

Ever since the fight was signed both athletes have been calling each other out in a verbal battle that quickly took on its own momentum.

In an interview published on 9 May Naumann said this of his opponent:

“Johan’s big problem is his conditioning… I hear the guy parties and he’s not always as focused as he should be. I don’t drink or smoke and I train six days a week. I promise you now, even though his conditioning might not be there, this fight won’t go the distance.”

Van Staden responded with “who is Frederich Naumann?” a phrase he used throughout his interview published on 24 May, giving no respect to his opponent and getting fight fans all over talking.

In a response from Naumann published on 27 May the Ninja stated that Van Staden was not serious about the fight, that he was only there for the paycheck. Fan involvement reached huge heights with comments both for and against the Ninja accumulating on the interview.

“The only thing Johan van Staden can destroy is a bottle of brandy and a joint! Johan had a draw and a loss after joining EFC! Naumann had two submissions of the night UNDER 2 MIN with both fights after joining EFC!” commented Naumann fan Richard Muller.

More controversy followed. Naumann pasted this to his Facebook page on May 31:

EFC AFRICA – Extreme Fighting Championship – A Champion’s Ring

He’s disrespected me,” said Johan van Staden in an interview given today, “his mouth’s going to cost him.” “I’m looking forward to Wednesday the 26th,” he adds, “when I get to see him for the first time. He got personal first, now it’s personal. We’re going to see what happens. I’m going to talk to him, make my point.”

Naumann was not available for comment.
