Johannesburg (South Africa) – This weekend EFC AFRICA heavyweight champion Andrew van Zyl will receive his absolutely unique, handmade Orpheo Twins Jewelers Championship Ring from Gilbert Torres, CEO of Opheo Jewelers, at the Fightstar MMA Challenge.

The Fightstar MMA Challenge is part of the Fighting Fit/EFC AFRICA Sports Development initiative which creates a platform for youngsters training in MMA.

The Fighting Fit Kensington initiative was begun by Pietro Cignoli, GM of Orpheo Jewelers, as an extension of his upliftment through martial arts work conducted for the last fifteen years from his Macnoli All Sports Centre situated in Hillbrow.

“Through giving these youngsters an experience of MMA training they learn a lot,” says Cignoli. “They get a taste of what the martial arts lifestyle is; a life of fitness and health, discipline and the love of competition. The youngsters that train with us often take the techniques home with them, training themselves and their friends.”

Two of Fighting Fit Kensington’s development athletes, Cassim ‘Phantom’ Khusu and Joseph ‘Psycho’ Phutiagae will be competing on the night while recent EFC AFRICA signing will be contesting for the welterweight championship belt, his last amateur outing before turning professional.

“Pietro’s input at amateur MMA and with the disadvantaged must be commended,” says Andrew van Zyl. “The amateur circuit in Africa is growing, and there are many athletes that are proving their worth. EFC AFRICA’s talent pool is only going to benefit from the endeavors of men like Pietro.”

The EFC AFRICA heavyweight champion will be presented with his Championship Ring by EFC AFRICA President Cairo Howarth and CEO of Orpheo Jewelers, Gilbert Torres. Other EFC AFRICA stars will also be in attendance, cheering the young athletes on.

“I am super pumped to be receiving my championship ring, seems like the 1st of March was so long ago,” says the EFC AFRICA heavyweight champion. “Thanks to Orpheo Twins and EFC AFRICA for the awesome opportunities they have provided for me. I am humbled every day.”

The event takes place on Saturday 8th June at the Mandeville indoor Sports Arena, 7th Ave and 10th Street, Bez Valley, Kensington. For updates follow the Fight Stars Facebook Page. Tickets can be bought from and go into the draw to win 2 VIP Tickets to EFC AFRICA 20 at Carnival City on the 27 June. Action starts at 6-30pm.
