Johannesburg (South Africa) – JP ‘Tinkerbell’ Kruger is currently in the city of San Jose, US, preparing for his main card middleweight bout with Johannesburg’s Liam Cleland, taking place on August 07.
Kruger has been training at AKA (American Kickboxing Academy), the home of UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, as part of a several weeks’ long trip that has seen him tour the States, taking in the best of MMA technique from all over.
“I’ve been going through all the paces of MMA,” said Kruger. “I’ve been at the UFC gym in San Francisco, particularly working on my BJJ there. Here in San Jose, at AKA, I’ve been taking in a lot of new wrestling and kickboxing knowledge. I’ll also be visiting Los Angeles for some specialized wrestling.”
Kruger will arrive back in South Africa on Saturday, July 26, where he will finish his fight camp and weight cut at his home bases, XKT and Rio Grappling, Springs.
“These guys are hard, they’re tough, and I’m enjoying every moment,” said Kruger of his time there. “Cleland is going to be an explosive fight, and I can’t wait for it.”
