Johannesburg (South Africa) – Just prior to filming the EFC 34 countdown show, we caught up with lightweight champion Leon ‘Iron Lion’ Mynhardt to get a closer look at his mindset in the lead up to his title defense against Sibusiso ‘The Monster’ Mdoko.
EFC: Mdoko has finished all three of his last fights. Does his finishing rate concern you?
Mynhardt: No not at all, I take every fight as it comes. It’s all about training, getting better and improving myself all the time, it doesn’t matter who I fight.
EFC: What will you be focusing on most in training?
Mynhardt: All round skill level. I’m looking to put up a show, improve my all round skillset and make a spectacular fight.
EFC: You’re coming off a recent injury, will that affect your fitness in the later rounds against Mdoko?
Mynhardt: Not at all, I was out for about 6 months and I think that the injury did me good, even my coach Morne told me that there was new fire in me. Rest made me realize what I had and it made me stronger when I came back. Maybe some things happen for a reason.
EFC: How will this fight finish?
Mynhardt: I can’t really say, I can’t predict the outcome. I will put in my best and hope for the KO or the submission… I hope to finish the fight.
EFC: Anything else to add before the countdown shoot gets underway?
Mynhardt: Just want to say thank you to my sponsors, teammates, coaches, family, and everyone who has helped me.
