Johannesburg (South Africa) – AT EFC 37 Themba ‘The Answer’ Gorimbo makes his return to the EFC Hexagon after a year’s lay-off due to injury. Now he returns to continue what he left behind and extend his winning streak when he faces EFC veteran Alex ‘The Professor’ Cheboub.
Gorimbo debuted in the Hexagon at EFC 22 and faced the formidable Juan Lubbe. To many fans’ surprise, he made quick work of him with an arm bar submission finish in the first round. He then went on to finish his next two opponents in a similar fashion, scoring submission victories over Chimmy van Winkel and Chaz Wasserman. Now he will be facing the biggest challenge of his career in the wily and experienced Cheboub.
“I have been out for a very long time, about a year,” stated Gorimbo in an interview this morning. “I have grown a lot now and excited to get in there and do my thing. I had a shoulder operation, but my shoulder is 110% now. I think this will be the first time I am fighting without an injury in my pro career.
“It is a move I wanted to do when I was at amateur level and the opportunity came up, so I took,” he commented on his recent move to his new team at FFM. “And I am really happy here now. I train with the best guys every day and that is boosting my skill and confidence.”
“My preparations have been going well; I trained through the holiday with my team. Champions never rest,” Gorimbo exclaimed about training for EFC 37. “I am coming with the same mentality that I always come with, I am coming to win!”
“At the moment I just want to get back in the Hexagon and fight,” exclaimed Gorimbo. I will be watching Leon and Don closely, but that is after my fight and for now my focus is on Alex. If I look past him it is dangerous and we will deal with the next opponent when we get there,” he continued.
“It is an amazing feeling to be representing my home country at this level,” Gorimbo stated. “But this is just the beginning. There is so much more I want to do… It’s incredible to have moved country to live my dream and have built up to this level,” he continued.
“I am going to win this for my country of Zimbabwe, my family and most importantly for myself,” announced Gorimbo. “This is my dream!”
