Johannesburg (South Africa) – The first time Boyd Allen and Wesley ‘Young Assassin’ Hawkey met was at EFC 23. What started as an exciting striking battle, ended with Hawkey in Allen’s tight guillotine and forcing him to tap-out in the first round. This time when they meet for their highly anticipated rematch at EFC 38 will be in Hawkey’s back yard in Durban in front of his home crowd.
After Allen’s first successful title defence against Wade Groth, Hawkey challenged him during the post-event press conference. Finally, Allen speaks out on the exchange.
“To anyone watching that specific press conference, Wesley asked how I felt about defending the title down in Durban. I paused before answering and he said, “no pressure”. My exact reply was “you’re right, there is no pressure”. Hype the fight all you like. I’ve put in the hours and hard work non-stop since my last defence. And it goes without question that I will be ready come April 4th. In fact I’m ready now!”
