Johannesburg, South Africa – The elite roster of EFC athlete’s continues to grow and now includes an addition of three top Brazilian talents. One is familiar to fans in the former welterweight champion Jadyson Costa. The other two hail from the famous city of Rio de Janeiro and go by the names Magno ‘Popey’ Alves and Paulo ‘Bananada’ Da Silva.
Heading the charge of the South American’s is the flyweight Alves. Making his EFC debut at EFC 51 against South Africa’s Gareth Buirski in a bantamweight bout. Fighting out of Team Nogueira alongside such names as Rousimar Palhares, Alves is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt under the MMA legend Antonio Nogueira.
Already announced, former champion, Jadyson Costa makes his return to the Hexagon to face his former student and training partner, South Africa’s Don Madge; in the headlining bout at EFC 52. There is unfinished business between these two former champions, and a rivalry that needs to be concluded.
Much hype surrounded Da Silva when he first signed with EFC months ago. Anticipation behind when and who he would debut in the Hexagon against continued to grow with every passing week. It is now confirmed after much speculation that he will make his anticipated debut in Cape Town at EFC 52. He is set to face none other than one of the toughest men in the organistaion, South Africa’s Sizwe Mnikathi. Da Silva is a Brazilian Muay Thai champion and similarly a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt under Nogueira.
The Brazilians have a rich history in martial arts and MMA, and have produced many champions around the world as well as in the EFC. How will this wave of talents fair in their respective divisions? Only time will tell.
