Kigali, Rwanda – EFC broadcast partner Kwesé Sports continues its expansion into Africa and continues to change the face of free-to-air (FTA) television with the launch of Kwesé Free Sports in Rwanda.
The channel, which just began broadcasting in Rwanda, is now available on any FTA set-top box (STB) or digital TV with a built-in set-top box. This is the latest development in the evolution of Econet Media’s Kwesé portfolio, which continues to bring African viewers access to premium content in the most accessible way possible.
The TV channel is already available for free throughout Kenya, and a further five countries are currently planned for this year. The channel is also available to hundreds of millions of people across Africa on the free Kwesé mobile app, which is ready to download now.
The Kwesé Free Sports channel is the first free-to-air sports TV channel offering 24-hour coverage of exclusive premium sports content in Africa. The company currently has the exclusive pan-African rights for some of the most sought after content in the world which include English Premier League football, NBA basketball, Formula 1, the Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC), Spanish Copa Del Rey football, English Premiership rugby and Brazilian football to name a few. It is also the first time these major sports have been available to everyone free of charge.
“We are thrilled to have reached this important milestone. Our goal is to bring African viewers the very best viewing experience and we are able to provide this for free in a way that is accessible for our viewers,” stated Ben Amadasun, CEO Kwesé Free Sports.
The upcoming EFC 54 event and all EFC events will be broadcast live and free on the Kwesé Free Sports channel, as well as EFC event build-up programming and weekly action-packed EFC episodes, so viewers will be able to catch all the action from every EFC bout.
“We are incredibly excited about this channel,” stated EFC President Cairo Howarth. “Thanks to Kwesé Free Sports, our fans in Rwanda and soon many other African nations will have easier and free access to EFC content. It is great to reach so many more fans.”
Starting with EFC 54, EFC fans in Rwanda can now watch EFC in more ways than ever before. EFC 54: Van Zyl vs Moyo, presented by SUPABETS, takes place on Saturday 15 October 2016 at Sun City, North West. Tickets are on sale now at www.computicket.com, and the 5 main card bouts will be broadcast live on kwesesports.com and Kwesé Free Sports channel in Kenya and Rwanda, starting at 19:00 (CAT), as well as on the free Kwesé app available for download now.
