Official EFC 101 Results
The African MMA season officially began in dramatic fashion, with 11 absolute wars of which only one went the distance, as the first fight card of the year delivered on its promise of an evening of unadulterated firepower, culminating in two incredible title fights which both concluded in the very first round.
In the main event, the women’s strawweight belt is heading back to Birmingham UK, as Alice Ardelean overpowered Cape Town’s Jessica Mouneimne with crisp and effective boxing and devastating elbows in the ground and pound, which opened up a deep cut on the forehead of Mouneimne forcing the doctor’s stoppage between the first and second rounds.
The other title fight ended in an unfortunate injury to the challenger Roevan de Beer, who dislocated his shoulder during a scramble on the canvas with the undefeated bantamweight champion Nicholas Hwende, who thereafter continued his call for an entry into the UFC. A request on his sensational repeated showings in the Hexagon is certainly hard to ignore.
The remainder of the main card proceeded at fleeting pace as the only judge’s decision of the evening went to Vince Bembe who outpointed a determined yet ultimately disappointed veteran Sizwe Mnikathi, after Johannes Rudolph came back from adversity to slap on an armbar on his opponent Martin Gcinumkhondo. The main card curtain-raiser provided another platform of dominance for middleweight Shadrack Nsua who forced a verbal submission from Mark Kamba due to incredible ground and pound strikes. The undercard action was also jaw-dropping with a superb mixture of finishes on an easy night for the cageside judges.
