I do a lot of high cardio wrestling and road work. Also mat work, a lot of hours on the mat.
When & why did you start martial arts training?
It was a new challenge for me with all the martial arts combined. I was at wrestling and then there was MMA training as well so we started training because it looked interesting I wanted to achieve more in my sports career.
What ranks & titles have you held?
Junior and Senior Protea colours in Wrestling
Youth Commonwealth Wrestling Champion
Commonwealth Wrestling Gold Medalist
Qualified for Olympic Games in Beijing 2008
Africa Senior Wrestling Championships Bronze Medalist
38 time South African Wrestling Champion
I like the arm triangle because it is very easy technique to set up. In my opinion it is a wrestler’s favorite position.
What other interesting information can you tell us about yourself?
I like to go fishing, as it is my favorite hobby besides MMA. I also like being in the great outdoors especially in the bush. I am a twin brother to Hanru Botha who is also an EFC athlete. It’s scary sometimes as we work in different towns and sometimes when we meet later we discover that we had the same thoughts on something and the exact same moment in time. Weird!
- Hanru Botha’s twin brother
- Commonwealth wrestler
- Majority of his wins have been by decision
- All of his losses have been by submission
