Fighters Biography
What do you do for fight preparation?
I train 4 hours a day. I start with wrestling in the morning, followed by Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu at Panther gym. Thereafter I go to conditioning with Brendan Lombard. Leading up to a fight I monitor my programme and everything is planned accordingly. To be the best, you have to be trained by the best.
How did you get your fight name?
My fight name is Boney ‘Bones’ Bukaka. My conditioning coach assigned this name to me due to my hard boned body.
When and why did you start martial arts training?
I started in the Congo when I was 7 years old. I started because I like the sport and my uncle was a boxer and took me along with him to the gym. Thereafter I fell in love with the sport and knew I wanted to fight.
How did you transition to MMA?
Once I came to South Africa I saw the scale of the sport and the growth of MMA in the country
and I then decided, why not just throw everything into the mix and become a mixed martial artist.
What ranks and titles have you held?
I hold the Western Province amateur K1 title and the South African K1 title. I was also the Congolese kickboxing champion.
Tell us about your most memorable fight.
To date I am still looking to create a big memory which I hope will be to compete for the title. I believe the Hexagon is my canvas and the way I fight is the art.
What is your favourite technique?
K1 is my favourite style of fighting.
Who are your heroes?
George St Pierre is my hero. Too me, he is the ultimate athlete.
What other interesting information can you tell us about yourself?
I am always ready to fight. I train to stay ready. I am on a mission and that mission is to be champion. I don’t believe in quitting, I always push myself beyond limits. I won’t stop at the end, I will stop when I am done.
