Fighters Biography
Fight preparation?
I have a full week of training. Monday tyre drills, Tuesday stand-up, Wednesday weights, Thursday ground, Friday sprint circuits. Jits on a Tuesday evening and Saturday morning. Sunday group training.
When and why did you start MMA?
I started kickboxing about 8 years ago to get in shape but it wasn’t really for me. I had 4 fights then soon progressed to MMA because it seemed more versatile and interesting.
What ranks and titles have you held?
Natal and SA boxing champ, over 100 amateur fights. Ranked 3rd as a pro boxer. 4x SA MMA light heavyweight champion.
What do you enjoy about MMA?
You can learn something new every day. You are not restricted to a certain style and you have to adapt to them all. Due to the endless possibilities you can have very competitive match-ups.
What do you consider your strengths to be?
Stand-up from my boxing background, but my ground’s not too bad either. I’m a 1 round specialist; with more than 20 fights I’ve only entered the second round twice. Win or Loss my opponent wishes it over in the first.
What do you do when not competing or training?
I work full time as a mechanical draughtsman.
MMA highlights:
Becoming SA light heavyweight champion and fighting international opponents in SA, New Zealand and the US.
