What do you do for fight preparation?
I train in the mornings, 4am to 6am. Cardio and weights. And then mostly sparring and grappling in the evenings, 6pm to 9pm, Monday, Wednesday, Fridays and Sundays. On Tuesday and Thursday evenings I do another weight session. I need to put on weight!
How did you get your fight name?
My surname is Zulu, everyone calls me Zuluboy. So I accepted it as my fight name.
When and why did you start martial arts training?
I started Kyokushun Karate at the age of 6. I was the 2008 tri-nation champion. I started Mauy Thai and K1 in 2008, when I stopped doing Karate. I got my SA K1 colours in 2009.
How did you transition to MMA?
At first I was obsessed with stand-up fighting. But after watching some of GSP’s fights, and seeing more and more ground fighting, I began to get interested. I started MMA in 2010, but only really got into grappling in 2012.
