TITLE FIGHT IGNITES CAPE TOWN

Cape Town, South Africa – The GrandWest Casino Market Hall was the scene of intense action at the EFC 42 weigh-in today. Congolese challenger Champion Dalcha faced off against reigning champion Norman ‘Chef’ Wessels ahead of their light heavyweight showdown tomorrow night. Both had the crowd on their feet with a dramatic staredown.

Each athlete brought a wave of support with them. Wessels’ team Fight Fit Militia travelled from Johannesburg in numbers to support their champion, while Dalcha’s Cape Town Dragon Power Gym and Congolese fans flooded the hall in a riot of chanting.

The excitement boiled over as first Dalcha and then Wessels took to the scale and afterward faced each other. Dalcha’s fans passed their hero a totem which he held up above Wessels’ head, who responded by slapping it to the floor.

“I have nothing to say, I want that belt,” screamed Dalcha to a roar from his fans.

Wessels was more composed. “He’s like a schoolboy that needs to get a tantrum out of his system,” he said. “Tomorrow night I’m going to teach him a lesson.”

The excitement wasn’t limited to the title fight. Cape Town’s Sibusiso ‘Monster’ Mdoku faces US athlete Dave ‘Pain Train’ Mazany tomorrow night, in what is a comeback for the Las Vegas based athlete. Mazany competed at EFC 05 in an exhibition bout, and tomorrow enters the organisation as another of the many top international athletes that have recently signed to EFC.

In addition to the light heavyweight title fight, the featherweight division will determine its new number one contender when Scotsman Danny Henry takes on South African legend Matthew Buirski. The winner will face undefeated champion Boyd Allen later this year.

Two athletes did not make weight. Saxon Delafield and Cole Henning were 600 and 300 grams over the lightweight limit of 70kg. The athletes have agreed to fight at their respective weights rather than cut further.
