DRC's Gunther Kalunda steps in to face Armand Scheepers, EFC 63

Cape Town, South Africa - Cape Town based athlete Khalil Akleker has injured his shoulder in training, forcing him to withdraw from his EFC 63 fight against undefeated Armand ‘Lil Wanderlei’ Scheepers. The DRC’s undefeated Gunther ‘The Beast’ Kalunda has stepped in to replace him.

Scheepers is a fearless Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner, known for his willingness to fight at any weight. Undefeated, he has finished all of his EFC bouts by submission. Originally scheduled to fight at lightweight, he will now step up to welterweight to accommodate his late replacement opponent.

Scheepers fights out of Crucifix Jiu Jitsu in Cape Town and is a firm crowd favourite, the fruit of years spent competing in combat sports in the Mother City.

Kalunda made his EFC debut at EFC 61, and put on an impressive display of striking and heavy-handed ground and pound. Fighting out of Tapout in Johannesburg, he carries the name ‘The Beast’ because of his incredible athleticism.

This fight takes place on the prelim card ahead of the five-fight main card at EFC 63 Cape Town: Contenders Rising.
