Johannesburg (South Africa) – EFC AFRICA returns to Johannesburg for EFC AFRICA 14, where featherweight and lightweight titles will be contested between Africa’s top MMA warriors. Tickets for the live event and nationwide broadcast to Nu Metro cinemas go on sale on 5 April at midday.

Massively popular undefeated lightweight champion Costa Ioannou captured the EFC AFRICA lightweight title at EFC AFRICA 08 and has successfully defended it since. Known as much for his vocal Greek fan base as for his devastating all-round skillset, Ioannou has completely dominated the EFC AFRICA lightweight division. However, on 1 June, Ioannou faces his toughest test yet in Adam Speechly, former EFC AFRICA welterweight champion. After losing his welterweight title in a closely contested 5-round battle at EFC AFRICA 10, Speechly has made the cut to lightweight and been given an instant title shot. He brings elite grappling and dangerous boxing to the clash with Ioannou and hopes to leave the cage with his second EFC AFRICA title.

At featherweight, current champion Demarte ‘The Wolf’ Pena will need every tool at his disposal to stop the whirlwind of destruction that is Wesley ‘The Young Assassin’ Hawkey. Pena captured the title at EFC AFRICA 10 with a dominant wrestling display, and EFC AFRICA 14 presents his first opportunity to defend his title. On the same night that Pena became champion, Wesley Hawkey made his EFC AFRICA debut, winning by submission in under two minutes. So far he has won three EFC AFRICA bouts in stunning fashion, making short work of all opponents and advancing a step closer to title contention with each first round finish. Now, just one hurdle remains, but ‘The Wolf’ vows to fight tooth and claw to retain his title.
