Johannesburg (South Africa) – Denzil Wait is just days away from facing Wentzel Nel at EFC AFRICA 14. Having lost his last bout in under 2 minutes at EFC AFRICA 12, Wait hopes to bounce back and establish himself as a legitimate featherweight threat.

“Preparation has been great at Gorilla Warfare under coach Marc Hebert,” says Wait. “We have had good time to get ready and I feel great at the moment. We’ve been working on everything but the main thing is implementing in the fight what we practice and do every day. I have the skills, now I just need to show them off!”

As for his loss to Wesley Hawkey, Wait says he’s dealt with it and learnt from his mistake. “My viewpoint on fighting and MMA is that it’s a journey. We are always training, always growing and it becomes our life and that’s what is important to me. I don’t let all that ‘good’ be ruined by 15 minutes that didn’t go my way, or in my case 2 minutes that didn’t go my way!”

On 1 June, Wait faces Wentzel Nel, a former lightweight champion. Against such high class opposition, Wait is cautiously optimistic. “Wentzel is a great fighter. He has good all round skills with exceptional wrestling. He is also an awesome guy and it’s going to be an honour to fight him. In this fight I’m going out there to perform, to show my skills and to fight my fight. If I can do that, I’ll get the win.”
