Johannesburg (South Africa) – With just over two weeks to go to Africa’s leading mixed martial arts show, EFC AFRICA 15, injury has forced Roger Goncalves off the card. Goncalves was grappling with heavyweight team mate Andrew van Zyl and suffered an injury to his leg. Kelvin Mwale has stepped in to replace Goncalves, and will face Hector Britts on 27 July.

Mwale made his EFC AFRICA debut in June at EFC 14, but was defeated in the last second of the first round via TKO. He’s now back to set the record straight.
“I’m not going to lie, David was better than me. I didn’t know what to do because he was fast, he was everywhere and I wanted to go after him but my corner told me not to chase him. I got confused and David got the advantage. I was upset about the loss, I still am, which is why I want to do better this time against Hector. I remember Hector a little bit from our amateur days but don’t know much about him yet. I have two weeks to study his fights and I’m excited about another opportunity at EFC. I’ve been training hard, even rolling with BJJ black belt Abmar ‘Jiu-Jitsu Outlaw’ Barbosa. He helped me in so many ways and I want to show that.”

According to Britts’ camp, the change in opponent is a favourable turn of events.
“This is a bonus because, unlike Roger, we’ve seen Kelvin fight before,” says Britts’ manager, Casey Thomson. “Kelvin is a nice strong welterweight, as is Hector. We know Kelvin is tough and aggressive and Hector will have his hands full in a toe-to-toe rumble, and will be hard pressed to keep any submissions locked on. This is going to be a bone crunching match-up with two dangerous men in the welterweight division.”

Britts was invited to join EFC AFRICA almost immediately after his last bout on 10 June. As such, he has continued his training camp straight through for EFC AFRICA 15. “I am confident I will win because I’m looking to make a statement on my EFC debut,” says Britts. “I’ve trained long and hard for this and I’m not about to disappoint!”
