Dricus du Plessis pulls guard on Tez Makuebo, EFC AFRICA 21

Johannesburg (South Africa) – EFC AFRICA 21 delivered a huge night of MMA action with high intensity bouts all throughout the card. The night’s award winners were Nkazimulo Zulu for his incredible highlight reel head kick KO of Lourens Botes, Ruan Potts for his record 37 second submission of Mahmoud Hassan and Wilhelm Strauss and Lance Ceronio for their uncompromising, all-out war that netted them fight of the night.

19 out of the 26 athletes in action on the night were given a clean bill of health by medical staff immediately after the event. Notable injuries were torn ACL and PCL ligaments as well as nerve damage, suffered by Tez Makuebo in his blistering encounter with Dricus du Plessis, and mild to moderate concussions to Lance Ceronio, Francois Groenewald and Lourens Botes.

All EFC AFRICA events are overseen by Event Doctors’ fully qualified medical team. According to doctors Hape Mapoe and Hendrik Ehlers, injuries sustained at EFC AFRICA 21 were:

Lourens Botes: Mild concussion.
Tez Makuebo: ACL and PCL ligament injuries, knee nerve damage. On a specialist’s assessment Makuebo will undergo surgery soon.
Lance Ceronio: Moderate concussion.
Francois Groenewald: Mild concussion.
Abdul Hassan: Sprained ankle.
