Rage Enters The Hex, May 01

Gordon ‘Rage’ Roodman to debut at EFC AFRICA 29

Johannesburg (South Africa) – Gordon ‘Rage’ Roodman is set to enter the EFC AFRICA Hexagon on May 01. For a disciple of the martial arts, this is a massive milestone on a journey that has taken him to every area of South African MMA.

“It’s been a very long road to my EFC AFRICA debut,” said Roodman. “I have been actively competing all over South Africa for four years now and have done some incredible events with many fond memories. But after 13 fights, three (T)KO finishes in under five minutes and the four round war with one of SA’s best (Keron Davies), I feel I’m ready to make the transition. I can’t wait to get in that Hexagon on fight night.”

In addition to his extensive local fight experience, Roodman knows the EFC AFRICA setup well as he’s been an official on numerous occasions.

“I’ve been very fortunate to be Hexagon side for more than 80% of EFC AFRICA events, and many other smaller amateur promotions all across the country,” said Roodman. “It has allowed me to understand the game, what judges look out for and the intense safety measures that are in place to ensure the fighters can deliver on the night. I’m comfortable with the pressure and familiar with the arena. Nothing but my opponent will be new to me and that in itself counts volumes towards calming those debut nerves.”

The ‘Rage’s’ amateur recent bout with EFC AFRICA athlete Keron Davies was indeed a barnstormer, and is still fresh in many fans’ minds. Is Roodman looking for a rematch?

“Ha, ha, always the Keron topic,” said Roodman. “We had an excellent fight. I still believe it to be the greatest MMA fight outside of EFC AFRICA ever to go down on SA soil. That said, I’m looking to fight whoever they put in front of me. I’m here to entertain the crowd, I’m here to knock guys out and I don’t care who I need to throw down with in order to do so.”

An opponent for Roodman has not yet been finalised. Details to follow. Follow ‘The Rage’ on twitter at @GordonRoodman.
