Johannesburg, South Africa – Johannesburg’s sweetheart of Mixed Martial Arts will make her second appearance in the EFC Hexagon on 3 October when she faces Italy’s Micol Di Segni at the epic EFC 44. However, Eliasov is a bit different to most professional athletes, as she does not compete for the money and instead donates her entire purse to charity.
Eliasov’s chosen charity is PETS, a non-profit organization that strives to empower animals in townships and poor communities. They work with the community to improve the lives of these disadvantaged animals by giving them daily meals, warm shelters, regular inoculations, sterilisations and vet care emergencies. They also re-home those that are unwanted, unloved or lost.
“I have always loved animals. Unfortunately, animals in our townships suffer immensely as a result of neglect and abuse. Animals think, feel and suffer just as humans do, but they are voiceless so their suffering goes unnoticed. I know I can’t change the world but I would like to make a difference, even if it’s just to relieve the suffering of a few animals. Being on TV etc seems silly to me unless I can use this opportunity for something worthwhile. PETS do amazing work caring for township animals and I support their cause wholeheartedly.”
Should EFC fans wish to support PETS and the work they do, visit their website, they have a multitude of methods to show your support. http://www.pets.org.za/index.php/help-us
