The heavyweight division is one of the most prestigious in Mixed Martial Arts with the African continent producing some of the greatest fighters in the 265lb division, and now, on Thursday, 06 October 2022, the EFC will crown a new King of the Heavyweights.

History was made at EFC 5 over 11 years ago when the first title fight in the category shook Johannesburg. Since then, the title has been a precious waist accessory to many legends to come out of the continent’s MMA scene, a belt that Matunga ‘HHH Power’ Djikasa and fellow Congolese compatriot Vandam Mbuyi will now be vying for along with the chance to etch their names in the history books.

Djikasa, training out of Brothers in Arms under Coach Conrad Seabi, looks to make his second attempt at claiming gold a successful one, following his shortcoming against former champion Thabani Mndebela at EFC 88. Veteran slugger Vandam Mbuyi walks into the Hex with a wealth of experience and fervently believes he will capture the gold on his very first attempt.

With both giants having been inside the Hex with some of the greatest names in the sport and boasting incredible knockout power in their hands, there is no shortage of confidence between Djikasa and Mbuyi. Over and above wanting to be the best in the division, the two will be fighting to be the prime prizefighter of their home nation and finally earn the right to be called the ‘The Pride of the DRC’, and of course, the EFC Heavyweight Champion of the World!

EFC 98, Mbuyi vs Djikasa for the EFC Heavyweight Championship, presented by World Sports Betting, takes place on Thursday, 06 October 2022 live from the EFC Performance Institute in JHB, South Africa.
